She Flies
December 15, 2011
Perhaps - she wanted to get lost..to hide away..to disappear. Perhaps - she felt safe tucked away deep within the tall grasses.
Perhaps - she preferred the dark to the light. Perhaps - she preferred the quiet to the noise. Perhaps - she preferred a life of solitude to that was filled with people.
Or perhaps...just perhaps - she was waiting for just that right moment..when the sun and the moon and the stars all align..and when she was feeling perfectly safe and secure and absolutely sure.
Perhaps - she flies only when no one is looking?

Wow! Stunning!
such majestic beauty :) - so glad you managed to capture the flight
Ses ailes de géant ne l'empèchent pas de voler... et avec une belle élégance.
well that is almost too beautiful for words. I've seen them in flight, but not this close-up - look at those feet! beautifully written and captured. what great timing. or patience. or...both. happy day to you Marcie.
What a wonderful capture of his elegance!
Wow, what a gorgeous shot!
What a beautiful shot...
lovely in these muted greys
You would be the "no one looking" and she'd not mind a bit!
at least she is free to fly off
very elegant
Marcie - as one who prefers "the quiet to the noise", I can understand the wish to fly in secret, when no one is looking. So it is rather odd for me to be here, on the web, blogging away. Thank you for providing the view into another secret and quiet moment.
I know herons well but it still surprises me how little 'heron' there is to the bird when in sudden flight like this ! Lovely moment.
This set of bird shots you have going on lately I really have enjoyed. Keep it up!
Marcie, that's beautiful.... makes me wonder how long you had to wait to capture this shot. Birds can be so elusive!!
Snapped at a perfect instant. The branches between you and the bird are both intriguing and annoying.
You caught her (so glad you used the feminine) at just the right time--those outstretched wings, those feet, and, from above! Well done.
Marcie, you have no idea how this struck to the place that I am right now. I think I'll have to print this post out to remind myself that I will be this bird someday that you imagine "feeling perfectly safe and secure and absolutely sure" . Goosebumps and tears and wishes to witness such moments. Such a beautiful and uplifting shot.
All colors come together in this photo Marcie!! A great catch and wonderful view!!
Perhaps she just wanted to show those beautiful, almost dance-like lines that her/his wings formed. magic!
This is positively magestic! The almost monochrome look is amazing, too.
This post is incredible - made me stop and really think about myself and some of my own motivations.
This is stunning!!!!!! Really a masterpiece, Marcie.
