Bird Feed

It begins - always - by simply showing up. With a thought..with an idea..with the belief and trust in possibility. With an understanding that on this day I will make an image..find an image...create.

The thought with which I begin with is never the one with which I end. Like any practice - I need to allow myself the quiet..the space..the internal process. I need to begin at the beginning with that letting go of all that I thought I knew so well.

Some days - it's about the world as it is..as I find and see it. The world that makes me stop and focus and capture it thru my camera's lens.

On other days - it's about creating. Making something out of nothing. Giving myself the gift and permission to imagine....to laugh...to play...to have some good ol' fashioned fun.

But the process?

It's always the same. It begins at the beginning. By simply showing up. By allowing space for whatever comes.

...It's always the same. It begins at the beginning, By simply showing up. By allowing space for whatever comes...
So much truth in those words and so much wisdom, Thank you Marcie :-)

Good words. Glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking these thoughts. :)

"....simply by showing up".
Isn't that profound. It's really true and I so often forget that.
Showing up is huge.
I'm glad and grateful every time I see you've posted.....shown up!
It's a beautiful thing:)
thankis for the reminder,

Lovely image, Marcie. The colours, spacing and in/out of focus elements make this great. None of this would have happened, though, if you hadn't come up with that idea.
You mention the idea of "allowing space for whatever comes", and I can identify with that quite easily. That's how my best shots come about, I know!

Like another person commented, I'm impressed by your constant creativity!
Just showing up and allowing silence, time and space are so very essential to creativity--at least for me. I've limited my external obligations for those very reasons. :-)

oh my gosh...thank you for reminding me about having (and employing my) sense of humor!! What a great image Marcie, you've set the
tone for the day for me!

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMary Sherman

Marcie, few truer words were ever written. My biggest struggle with photography, and with life, is just "letting go and letting be." I am trying hard to learn to be still and experience a scene before I shoot it. This is a great reminder. Thank you!

Such a fun photo!

January 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMichaela

such an imaginative photo! I like the idea that the creative journey begins just by showing up. I don't think I've thought of that before, but of course it's true. I've always noticed that my most successful and creative inspirations come at (or near) the end of a project. Sometimes there's not time to implement them but sometimes there is. Such an interesting process.

really fascinating your interpretation in this one wonderful and great impact... congrats for your result in photoblog award---- :)

First of all, your photos are all beautiful. The advice given in this post is so right on! We begin by showing up.
I'm just starting out on the journey of photography and have found out that getting out there every day, showing up, is what it takes to get started.
Thanks.
