Prey-ing

One of this snow-less winter's gifts..is the hawks that are visibly hovering. Something about them that is beauty and grace and strength - combined.

Wow! It is so rare to see a bird of prey...they are so amazing! Have you seen any of the arctic owls that have flown way off course this year?

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStacie

They are such beauties and you have captured him so finely!

January 28, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermissing moments

Nice capture! Winter seems to make the hawks more visible, or perhaps they spend more time in the valley looking for food than in the rest of the year.

Quite a head turner.

I love hawks! The brown and blue in this portrait is serene and lovely. I think of these birds as quiet, about their business.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRuth

Your baby hawk, just knew he/she was going to have a very fine portrait taken. Held his/her breath, turned the best side to the camera and let you "go for it." Great capture, beautiful bird.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharon Furner

She blends in so beautifully with the background colors! Such a majestic creature

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterArjan - PlasticDaisy

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKathryn Dyche Dechairo

Beautiful capture!

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPat

How kind of him to sit for a portrait! I always feel, when I see one of these elegant creatures-animal medicine...what does this creature represent to me? Hawks definitely have those qualities of both grace and strength...perhaps your own reflection and reminder, Marcie.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMary Sherman

very well composed, nice shot

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkrunal

Nice shot of this bird. They are so much harder to find and photograph than ducks and geese! You caught this one in an interesting pose.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHarry

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterviks

Wow, beautiful photo!

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVictoria (Sweden)

what a majestic bird. your camera lens must be pretty powerful to get such a spectacular shot without the bird flying off. Love-Ly.

January 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSherri B.

Excellent!

Yes, they are wonderful birds - we have so many of them here around the house... and storks and heron birds and Ibises and cranes and even sometime the pink spoon bills.... it's almost like an outdoor zoo. It's Florida's wildlife and it was their habitat long before humans started out to build all their many houses and mansions into the swampy regions. But, they come still back to fish in the ponds and creeks.... they have forgiven us, I think - and we don't care about.....

Have a nice Sunday, Marcie
