Choosing to See
October 16, 2012
No need to look up to see the colors of the dawning morn. I could feel the light. I could see them in the reflecting waters.
From brilliant reds and oranges..to faded pinks. From darkness...to light. From night...to day.
At first glance - they were nothing other than some sticks and stones. Ordinary...everyday. Not something anyone would give a second glance or chance.
But - when I stopped and glanced again - I saw what it was I'd come to see.
Tiny long-legged...elegant and graceful - dancers. Siegfried with his swan Odette....James with his sylph....Clara dancing alongside her princely nutcracker. All of them - surrounded by their chorus.
And - I thought ...as I so often do - it's amazing what we see if we choose to look. It's amazing what we choose to see when we're not quite looking.

... yes... indeed... it's amazing what we see if we choose to look. Congrats!
Lovely colors and the twigs form an interesting pattern with their reflections.
A beautiful reminder to choose to see. What a gorgeous sight!
Terrific capture!
This is the kind of image I'd want to give to my English class (if I were a teacher!) and ask them to write about what they see! :)
Sigh...
This is beautiful - love the black contrast among/against the jewel tones.
My heart skipped a beat when my screen revealed this capture. Absolutely STUNNING!
Thank you for the reminder.
The very definition of photography - "what we see if we choose to look". And here - the silky water and its pink/blue morning reflections; the dancing twigs. Nothing more is needed because you have captured the beauty of simplicity.
At first glance I thought of an elegantly written Chinese character.
Yes, when we are not quite looking...amazing things come into view. Beautiful color and light.
It's like another realm exists when we coose to truly see.
Great capture! There's something about the stillness of water and its reflection that sends us deep into our own minds.
So well articulated.
I love the reflected colors; so rich but subtle. Beautiful, as always.
Who knew branches could look so graceful? And what beautiful colors in this photo! Love.
It is pretty amazing what we choose to see. So simply beautiful! I just love your photos and your words.
i like the shapes formed by the reflection.. good eye noticing this.. :)
Beautiful again! You capture simplicity!
I see the dancers there too!
You never fail to surprise me - I love this!
Amazing what you do with subject matter most of us would just pass by…
You have a way with the simple compositions. Beautiful.
Nature provides such amazing symetry sometimes. I'm so glad you were there to see it and share it.
love the color and the reflection
You certainly have the 'seeing eye'. But having followed your blog for quite a well I also think you must be blessed with some wonderfully photogenic country not far from home, and......you have the stamina to get up early in the morning to catch the best light. This is just a perfect reflection. Characters from a long-lost language perhaps
Beautiful!
Dreamy!
Nature's Rorschach--such stunning minimalism.
