I Knew Too
February 5, 2012
Just like this - I found her.
Quietly sitting beneath a leafless winter tree. Sweetly childlike. Exposed. Vulnerable. Tenderly innocent. Wise..and yet so naive.
She reminded me of a tiny island - insignificant..small..and lost in the vastness of life's ocean. Calm... content...and at peace within. She was undisturbed by the curious passers-by and onlookers.... unaware of anything...other than her reading.
She was lost in her imagination. And - yet - it was there that she was found.
It was just an instant..a blink of an eye. I'm sure it happened. I'm quite sure it did.
She looked up at me. She smiled. She gave me that all-knowing look. As if - she understood. She knew me and I knew she....and that - really - we two are much the same.
And - in that silent wordless exchange - I knew too.

poignant!
It does not surprise me at all that she winked at you and knew you both were alike :-)
She looks so engrossed in the book.
Oh Marcie, why haven't I followed your link from Bo Mackison's blog before? I see you have some beautiful photographs here and a simply lovely story for your book-reading friend. :)
What an unexpected world apart...when two become one! This is so sweet, Marcie.
I love it Marcie... both your little reader and your exchange with her.....peter:)
Touching story being told here with your image and your words. What a lovely, inspirational post!
Very nice!
moving image...
touching!
Quite delightful this child reading.
That is so sweet and tender and thoughtful. So many people could look at that scene and come away with so many thoughts. My thoughts go to the owner's and their story, why under that little tree, how long has she been there, what does she mean to their lives.
So so beautiful... both the words & the photo. Yes.
I love the part that reads - *and yet, it was there that she was found*

Always love these moments with you ...wonderful words.
You're the bomb.
Lots of folks would have walked right by without stopping to see if she had anything to say to them. Thanks for seeing her and letting her speak to you so both of you could speak to us.
Nice one Marcie - a bit like one I had last year: http://tomwilson.shutterchance.com/image/2011/06/26/brsad-statue-2/
This photo is fantastic...I LOVE statues and often wonder if there are living souls trapped inside, watching us as we walk by and live our lives. Me and my wild imagination, I know...but for this reason I always feel such a compassion and fascination for them! Thanks for sharing this amazing image - I would've been thrilled if I had stumbled upon this in the woods!
What lovely prose! Glad I found your link from Creative Every Day!
Great post again! I do love those little sculptures very much... I have some in my collection too and I would love to photograph more... I think I have to go back to a Garden center again, they have a lot of them :-))

Lovely Marcie, my husbands grandparents home is now owned by the city and they use it as an museum. Anyway in their garden there is such a statue and his grandmother loved it. I think of her when I see it.
I love your story and the sweet little statue!

Yes, to those stolen moments with kindred spirits! Perfect contrasts, of many sorts, and composition in this piece!
