Life Partners
February 6, 2012
Mesmerized - I watched as what one did..the other did immediately thereafter. Mirrors of one another. Reflections of each other's actions and thoughts.
One reached back to scratch beneath its feathers..the other reached back and scratched beneath that same but opposing side. One extended and stretched its long and graceful neck...the other followed.
Such perfect synchronicity. Not a single word or sound passed between them. And - yet - they seemed to know and understand. Where one ends and the other begins. Where one begins the other ends. Or - perhaps - there are no beginnings and endings at all.
Maybe that's what makes them so unique. These seemingly simple swans..with their bodies so much bigger than their heads. Life partners and best friends.

I think swans are fascinating birds/animals as they stay with their partner for all time.
Congratulations on your award, Marcie. Very, very well deserved.
I've only seen swans at the zoo, sadly. I would kill to see some in a natural setting.
Beautiful photography and commentary, dear. I think lobsters are mates for life too. ;)
Life long mate and best friends, what a romantic program :-)
awww.... sigh....
there is something so regal....so beautifully noble
about creatures that partner
for life.
i love how your heart noticed
and your camera found and cherished.
thanks for the beautiful share,
Jennifer
Truly beautiful! You're invited to post your portfolio at Fotoz.com. It's a Network for photographers.
You had to pay close attention to see what you observed there. When we slow down to nature's pace, it's amazing what we notice!
it's romantic., and they are very loyal, I'm so jealous of their,.
why humans can be unbeatable loyalty by animals,.
probably because the human ego is only concerned with their respective
ups., sorry., my url wrong write.,
I love that you are getting to know them so well...and sharing it all with us.
They are always so elegant looking.
Beautiful words and image.
A very beautiful image... Fine view of nature.
Lovely marriage of picture and words. Really sweet and touching!
I love that you have these incredible creatures up close and personal near you, Marcie, because they amaze me. We see them out in the polder every time we are out-n-about and Astrid tells me all about them. The lighting in this image pays them the tribute they deserve.
And what do you want to be when you grow up? Just like these swans! :)
life partner that had a run in so to see.
Life partners and best friends... the ideal combination! Perfect.
This gave me goosebumps.
Simply beautiful.
Such imagination and understanding you have about nature and what you see with your eyes and heart. Beautifully done, Marcie!
What a beautiful tribute to the special nature of our lifetime relationships.
A beautifully composed capture!
Lovely! Your words and photos always complement each other so beautifully!
Almost like bookends - a delightful couple.
Wonderful romantic image!
Just me, or they look like they had a spat :)
They are playing 'Follow my leader'. An interesting observation - I have seen similar with some Egyptian Geese. One of the moments where a picture falls short of a movie.
very romantic, lovely !!
Beautiful presentation Marcie. I love that they mate for life.
How lovely :-)
Perfect harmony! Your image is really special or is it your words that make it special :-)
