An Apple A Day
February 7, 2012
An apple a day. Or two. Or - on some days - maybe even three.
Been asking myself - of late - why? Why - this need..this drive..this un-ending desire to create? To make? To find something new each and every day..and record it? How did what once was nothing more than an occasional pastime ....turn into a daily habit?
I thought of that old saying of how an apple-a-day keeps the doctor away. I thought about how that has translated itself into what I do.
Repetition. Returning - again and again and again. A simple diet. A bit of color. A walk in the woods..or in my little hand-made home-made studio. An apple each and every day. Together - it all adds up.
A little lightness. A little laughter. A little fun. A few basic ingredients that combine together and add up. To one big happy smile

Excellent shot!
Marcie,
I'm happily wondering some of the same things you speak of in you post! Great photo and melding of your art and writing.
What a bright and happy image -- I love the colors! Some of my happiest moments are with camera in hand -- it's rather addictive, isn't it?
Creativity every day keeps the doctor away ;-)
This composition makes me think of a modern still life painting,
I love that image :-)
Sweet, simple and to the point. Makes me smile too!
Beautiful image, Marcie. Love the colors.

The texture and color are really great. Just what I needed on a cloudy, gray day.
Superbe composition, j'adore la petite valise et les deux couleurs dominantes;
love the vivid color combo
Wonderful, delicious red Marcie...though I hope you're not trying to keep the doctor away.
Just a few minutes ago I read the following quote from Chuck Close: “Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work.” That fits you to a T, Marcie. If anyone models it, it is you. Thank you, over and over again. This is just delightful.
I can see you smiling here – really happy and with all your heart!
Love this typical ‘Marci Scudder still life’. It put a big smile in my face when it popped up on my screen.
A lovely picture and inspiring post. I am hoping eventually to get into that 'daily habit' :)
Beautiful creation.
lovely arrangement
these colors work so well together and lift my mood
Lovely photo ... and, of course, we are born to create. It's what human beings do.;)
beautiful image and coloring
Thank you Marcie for such a beautiful and thoughtful post.

Marcie - I agree. For me, it is the daily commitment, even when I don't want to, when it's not working, when it seems to lead only to failure - that is when it really makes a difference. And what a cheerful and happy still life - that combination of teal and red - the careful placement of each element to create a lively whole.
Daily but still fresh. And appealing.Infinitely so.
Are there no days when the urge to create is less? I have days when my need is to be still, to rest. There are days when a writer's creativity forces me to concentrate fully on their work, when I must read or else find no peace for thinking that the characters, events and scenery of a story are moving on without me.
I too take my camera out each day, but it often remains unused. I have thoughts which need holding back, because they aren't ready for voicing. I may just look at an apple, weigh it in my hand, polish it a little, then put it back in the bowl. By tomorrow it may have mellowed or begun to rot, and I'll know better what to do with it.
what a beautiful way to speak about the nature of creativity Marcie. Such a striking picture with those color combinations!!
Love the adorable little lunch box and the cute wallpaper/contact paper that you used for the shoot. It does all add up, doesn't it! Beautiful post!
Marcie, I love this photo, the colors and composition. It looks very much alive. Coincidentally, one of my favorite home design bloggers just posted on "Teal and Red" this week. Must be something in the air.
Man... now I have a big craving for some apple crisp. Nice image :)
I like what you have been doing with the bright colours indoors Marcie... love the apples and the nice old child's leather lunch pail....peter:)
So cheery, like a prescription for good health.
Superb composition. I love the tones!
It made me smile, Marcie! So pretty in color and I had the same little turquoise luggage for my dolls clothes as a young kid of 8 or so....
The red flowers correspond so well with the red apples - it spreads joy and it keeps the doctor away - they told us too.
Awesome colours. Very nice!!
I love those colors together.
What a lovely photo.
Caramel Brownies
wow so lovely and I am glad you have this need every day to create I get to enjoy the product of that Yeah!!!!
I've always loved that shade of blue with red.
Perfectly wonderful in every aspect!
Lovely composition, Marcie! I love the colors and the way you focused this image. Very nice!
An interesting still life. Such disparate items with such near colors and some shape echoes.
This is just so beautiful, Marcie. The care taken in preparing this scene for the actual photographing of it is evident.
Well done. Your pics are excellent and the complement, you writing, is just perfect
I think that is my absolute favorite shade of blue. It makes my mouth water. And red... I love red. I have been thinking a lot about repetition. I console myself with not reaching the heights of artistry that I desire that it's practice and if I keep it up, I will get there.
I would say: A Marcie frame a day keeps the sadness away. That's all it takes for some big smile. Thanks for that, Marcie!
All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
probably because we need a creative output.. :) nice shot here..
