Remembering Summer
March 1, 2012
'You do remember?' - I heard one say to another. 'You do remember - the feel of the summer sun - don't you?'
'The weight and scent of freshly laundered brightly colored clothes. Stripes and dots and darks and lights.'
'The wind gently blowing.'
'You do remember ...don't you? The sound of the squeaky wheel...of the clothesline rolling itself in..and rolling itself out. And - the song of the lawn mower and the sweet smell of that freshly cut grass?'
'The children laughing and playing? The lemonade?'
'I know this waiting is hard...this having to be in here when really wanting to be out there. But - you do remember..you have to remember..you will remember - summer?'
'I'll make you a promise. I'll tell you a secret. It's coming. Summer does - every year.'
And - with that - I walked away. Reassured in their certainty and knowing that - yes - the seasons do change. They will. That today's snow...won't stop summer. It'll soon be here.

Spring is just around the corner and then we are nearly there - Summer :-)
I really try not to wish my days away ... life is so short. But Spring and Summer are so awesome! :)
Today felt like summer. Totally was not prepared for it but felt right.
Smiling, so beautifully illustrated.
Yes! Love your words.
I have the impression that, if the sun came out, those pegs would be up dancing!
Thanks for this. I needed reminding after all this snow today! What a great photo, too! xo Gigi
The thought of these clothespins having a conversation like that makes me smile from ear to ear, Marcie. :)
make me just sigh... lovely post, as well as photo Marcie
Yeah, this one gives me a nice vibe too... Laundry in the wind; gently swaying colors...
Delightful!
Yes! The summer will get here, we just have to be a little patient... :)
OH, I just can't wait to smell that sweet aroma of fresh cut grass! Spring, Spring, I'm waiting on you!
What a lovely post that made me smile...your words and photo makes me yearn for summer! It won't be long...
Wonderful colors and playfulness you've created Marcie!
And they all fall down! they're like children waiting for the rain to stop so they can go out and play!
yep, for the first time in a few months, i'm out wearing only a shirt.. lol.. nice capture..
Thank Goodness!
Even surrounded by gray skies and cold and mud, it is encouraging to know that spring and summer are really on their way. Perhaps it is so precious because we hold the beauty of it in our minds to carry us through the gray days.
Thanks for the memories Marcie... and i believe your secret... even if we have two feet of snow on the ground.... the squeal of clotheslines seem to be a thing of the past.... my neighbor has one and i enjoy the sound it makes... it brings back memories of clothes smelling of the wind:)....peter:)
Great idea really well executed! Love the words which accompany this colorful ‘clothespins still life’.
A colorful, enjoyable shot.
the clips really appear longing for the summer
Looks as though the clothes pegs would not be used on the day you shot this one, Marcie :-)
Like this shot. has a feeling of waiting and a melancholy to it.
Yes! Hurray!!
C'est bien imaginé, c'est bien fait.
I've long harbored a thought of running an entire photoblog with clothespins . . as you so sweetly reveal here, they say the most profound things !
it will, seriously, it's just around the corner....
how sweet . beautiful imagination ;)
This tells a story on it's own. Rain outside, laundry waiting for summer again, to hang outside in the sun. Great scene!
Very creative shot and beautifully written post Marcie. Time marches on...
