Summer Story
June 18, 2012
How do I even begin to describe this too-short season called summer? How do I record and preserve it? How do I make what is indescribable...intangible...invisible - visible and real?
The smells...the sounds...the heat...the colors...the magical light? What and how and when and where?
It's what I've been thinking..it's what I've been asking..it's what I've been looking for. A new way in which I might see it..feel it...experience it. A new way of telling this same ol' story in a whole new way.
If I didn't stop. if I didn't look. If I didn't see. In one blink of the eye..it would pass right by. It would come..it would go...it would be over before it began.
How would I know..how would you know..how would any of us know that this particular summer happened?

oh Marcie, you caught the fleeting-ness of it!
what a stunning photo.
it paints so well the whisp of summerness
that brushes by like a breeze
from time to time
when we're not too busy
to be in it.
oh thank you.
thank you for the beautiful stir,
Jennifer
Nice focus. Love the yellow colors.
Lovely words and image.
Wonderful use of space and light--I love this photo Marcie. The seasons are flipped for me. Southern California is too much summer and I so miss our fleeting winter and meager rainfall.
Many of the same questions could also be asked about life, right? All we can do is stay alert, open and awake. ( As you are doing) Maaaaagical image!!
The best things are so fleeting.
Beautiful word and photograph, Marcie.
I hope you've had a wonderful beginning to your week!
I really like this!
excellent photo
spring will be over in two days... it has never gotten here
I think it's called "Daily Reflections!"
A wonderful picture!
I agree; summers go by far too fast. Very well done.
The ferns seem to be doing a dance to honor the single yellow bloom.
beautiful PP for such a pretty scene. so indicative of summer.
Great capture of a perfect symbol for summer! Yes it goes so quickly, but do you remember how slowly time went when we were kids? I think we have to slow down and savor the moment.
I love that one little yellow flower in a field of summery green!
Thank you for being there, with camera in hand, to bring it to us - this magical time called summer. If there ever was an image that shouts summertime, this is it.
Like the focus on the flower.
Lovely image and insightful thoughts, Marcie
Like the treatment a lot. And the words of course.
Oh Marcie, if only it would happen for us here.
Please, do tell us about it in your own words, at least I'd have an idea what you are saying and showing.
Well crafted image. It's nearly mid summer's day according to the length of daylight and today we've had the first reasonable warm sunny day this month and another tomorrow and then it's back to wind and rain. So, being slightly facetious - I'm running out of time for summer to happen. And how will I know it did happen - well the simple answer will be that my lily white legs might have turned ever so slightly brown! You know the worst thing about bad weather? There is no-one you can shout at about it and tell them to produce something better! That is so frustrating sometimes.
Your photo speaks at length of summer, with all it's greenness and magic and the blur with which it passes by. I can't believe July is drawing near! No!
Very surreal! Well done.
LOVE this, Marcie! Summer noticed, noted and adored..that's what your photo says..that's what I see. Thank you!!
well, some say summer just started a while ago (6PM).. weird, right? and to think that i thought it started already.. :)
Sometimes it just takes a frame like this to preserve a moment & a feel for a long, long time. And believe me: This beauty of yours will be my summer companion. It's something more felt than seen, Marcie!
All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
