This Day In July
July 9, 2012

'It's the hottest summer' - I could hear one saying. 'It's unbearable - it is - this endless heat. There is nowhere to find much needed relief.'
And then immediately following - the second one chimed. As if she hadn't heard what the other one had said. As if she was sitting there - just she and she alone.
'It's been so cold' - I heard her say. 'I can't remember a summer as one quite as miserable as this. I can't seem to warm my achey bones.'
And then the third - looked up from her knitting..raised her eyes..looked up at the sky.
'Isn't it glorious' - she exclaimed - 'to be alive. To feel our achey bones. To bask in all this heat. On this day. In July.'
I couldn't help - but smile. Because...you see - it's all about what you choose..and how you choose to be.

Exactly!
Well said.
Perfect photo to accompany your story.
Amen!!! Love the photo also.
a nice summer pic! classic!
so so true - it's all in how we interpret our days. I will work to be the "third" one! thanks for the reminder!
Love this photo and your words - so true! I too want to be that third lady.
Les teintes sont très jolies et en parfaite harmonie.
I just love your stories!
When I merge the photo and your little story, I can't help but say "Awww. That's so sweet!" It is, Marcie! You've transplanted your attitudes into your photos in a masterful and meaningful way.
Lovely shot and wise words.
My goal is to be lovely lady number 3 and to also have her for a friend. It is all about the way we choose to live our life. Thank goodness we have a choice. I love the image that goes with the story. I can just picture all three of them sitting there.
Delightful image and story!
Well said... and so true. Lovely photo. Makes me smile :)
I can just hear them talking, sitting on those colorful chairs. You are so right!!
Truer words were never spoken. I love this photo!
Beautiful...!Love it all!!
Love your image here and your words are so true - it really is about what you choose and how you choose to be.
Perfect!
the story and photo are so very comforting - and can imagine the unfolding of it all in my mind's eye. it's all about perspective yes. happy Tuesday to you Marcie.
a fantastic nostalgia in color over this scene. nicely done.
What a wonderful imaginary conversation - a great reminder of the impact of our attitude on our inner world.
Lovely shot! Marcie!
I love this - and it is so very true.
Nice! This little story reminds me somehow of my Polish grandparents. They argued incessantly, and I'm probably lucky I didn't understand the language. But after Babci (my Grandmother) died, Dziadzi (Grandpa) was devasted. My mother said to him one day, "I don't know why you say you miss her. All you ever did was fight." And he answered, "But she was HERE."
I have always loved those chairs, Marcie, and how they're making a comeback. No wonder they're talking to each other! CONGRATULATIONS on your "tip of the hat" over at Jenny's site!
The Brits are very well known for discussing the weather. And whatever the weather is like - you will find some who like it and some who hate it. Although with the awful wet summer we're having over here, the people who like rain may be finding themselves in a very small minority by now!
It is all according the point of view. Now how do I account for this awful English rain ;-)
So true Marcie. It's all in the perspective isn't it. Love your little tale.
Absolutely delightful, both the story and photo. Great old time feel.
CIever text and image!!!
Ha, this is so true. And what a charming image of the cottage too!
It's tough not to complain about the weather, our jobs, the bills, and so on. But I'm trying to get to that place of pushing those complaints aside and seeing what's good.
Those chairs on the porch are my favorite style of outdoor chair! They remind me of summers at the lake. And they are even better in such bright colors!
In principle I have to agree with the third lady.
But as a landscape photographer heading into the 8th week of unpredictable weather (it's raining again as I write) I'm beginning to agree with number two (and I paraphrase) ... "I can't remember a summer quite as miserable as this. I can't seem to warm my creative bones.'
i'm with the third one.. :) those chairs really grab attention, nice shot!
So cool! It's the primary colors--well seen! Great post Marcie!
