Shaping Time
September 11, 2012
'How are you?' - I heard one ask the other.
'Busy' - was the response. 'Busy with work. Busy with family. Busy with life. Busy..busy..busy.'
She smiled - as she described in great detail what it is that's consuming her. Her time. Her energy. Her valuable resources. She talked as if 'busy' is virtuous..'busy' is good...'busy' is the only way to be in the world today. Perhaps - she believed that there is some sort of reward for all of the 'busy' she is?
The conversation I overheard - happened in passing. Two friends walking and talking..as I stood perfectly silent and still.
I wanted to shout out to them. I wanted to invite them to stop - for just a moment. I wanted them to take a quick time out from all of their doing and busy-ness...just to be. Just to see.
And the sun peeked its head up and over the horizon. Just as it does - every single day. The rays of light burned thru the morning mist and reflected back. It took my breath away.
We make time. We shape time. No matter how busy - I thought - I'll always carve a little space out for this.

Carving time for a perfect sunrise is the prefect way to be busy, in the right way. At least this is my belief. Sunrises are representing in my eyes what is right with the world :-)
Wonderful starburst, both in the sun and its reflection.
It is the precious fringe benefit us camera enthusiasts carry around with us!
Perfect!
Take time to out notice life! I love the soft blur of the bright sun and awesome reflection.
Stunning!!
Mines up as well at AussiePomm - Sydney Olympic Cauldron Alight (again)
Have a great WW!!
They missed this? because they were talking about how busy they are? I"m so happy that you did not!
So agree ... always must take time to enjoy the world around us! Great shot!
Beautiful photo and a wonderful reminder to remain present in our lives.
No amount of "busy" will ever make up for THIS! And that's the truth.
I so agree with what you say here about shaping time. Love the image.
So beautifully spoken...I so agree with your thoughts! Our culture prizes workaholics; it's to the point that taking time for yourself is considered laziness. This makes me sad!
what a sunset
Beautiful words and photo today! Thank you.
Excellent!
Love this - all of it!
Ah, double sunflare! How lucky we are that you took the time to stop and breathe and "see". I like that thought that we "shape time" - we make it ours by the choices we make with each minute.
If someone can't stop for a moment to look at this scene, then there's something seriously wrong with them. I don't do busy any longer. I'm retired. I just go with the flow and enjoy my time. There are very few things now that can't wait until tomorrow.
Wonderful words Marcie!!!!!
People allways are running......and forget to enjoy the beauty of our Earth...
Right you are - and thanks for the reminder!
Love your capture of this beautiful and moody sunrise!
Lovely sunrise or sunset. Sure it's fine to be busy - as long as it has an element of creativity. Just like you Marcie!
There is so much pressure these days to be busy. It's like a badge of courage and honor. I feel ashamed when a friend asks what I'm going to do this weekend and I say that I have no plans. I'd love to start a movement of unbusyness. Let us rise up and make daydreaming and playing worthy To Do's!
Wow! This is so wonderful, Marcie! How could someone not notice this amazing sunrise?
Like the warm tones and this peaceful atmosphere. Good work!
yep, it's important to take time off and not always be busy all the time, lest one miss great scenes like this.. :)
I try not to say "busy" - because I don't love the word and because I'm not, and if I am, it doesn't feel like busy to me - but I notice that it's hard, hard not to think that if I'm not, I need to be finding ways to make myself busy or else I'm being lazy! Except I like sitting outside and listening to the kids talk, and spending minute after minute staring at flowers, and watching the pup roll in the grass in the middle of the day. That feels important too.
Stunning, I can almost feel it warmth...
