Standing Proud

The sky was that endless shade of azure blue. The sun was warm and bright...in spite of the late afternoon cooling. The air smelled and tasted like September.

I wasn't really looking....but there they were. A field of endless flowers  -  reaching and stretching and growing.

Arms by their sides. Faces turned to the sky. Hearts wide open. Standing tall. Standing proud. Standing confident and strong and free.

I watched as they nodded their heads and smiled. I marveled at their energy. In the quiet of that afternoon breeze - I believed in that moment that I could hear them singing.

With limbs intertwined and eyes uplifted - they sounded their voices. A sweet and deep familiar melody. And - then - I'm sure..yes - I'm quite certain - that I heard the sound of the world as it joined in and sang along.

Have you ever stopped to listen?

Your description is so perfect...I've never seen a field of sunflowers before. If I ever do, I'll be in awe, I'm sure. What a sight that would be! Gorgeous image...have a wonderful weekend!

We have an area near here that has a 'sunflower' maze...5 acres of sunflowers...I haven't been yet but I hope to next year.

I have been in Illinois the past few weeks with my mom. I thought of you often because i found a place along the river that reminds me of your beautiful photos...a resident heron, lots of geese. Your photos will remind me of that bit of serenity.

I'm sure there are sunflower choirs.
They are too happy not to sing.

A sunflower choir - that would surely be a joyful, happy sound.
